Oil Kings Grab 3-0 Series Lead

Brandon, MB. -- The Edmonton Oil Kings have pushed the Brandon Wheat Kings to the brink of playoff elimination.

The Oil Kings scored five unanswered goals, including two in the second period to wipe out a 1-0 deficit en route to a 5-1 victory over Brandon Tuesday night in game three of their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Semi Final series.

The Oil Kings, who have now won eighteen straight games including seven in post-season play, now lead the best of seven series three games to nothing with game four scheduled for Wednesday night at Westman Communications Group Place.

After Ryan Pulock's first period powerplay goal gave Brandon a 1-0 lead, the Oil Kings came out flying in the second, outshooting the Wheat Kings 19-2 and scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead after forty minutes.

A powerplay goal in the opening minute of period three gave the Oil Kings a 2-goal cushion and they cruised to the win before 3,700 fans.

Stephane Legault led the winners with a goal and an assist while single tallies came off the sticks of Travis Ewanyk, Mitchell Moroz, T.J. Foster and Curtis Lazar.

Henrik Samuelsson added two assists for the Oil Kings, who finished the game with 42 shots on Brandon netminder Corbin Boes. Laurent Brossoit turned aside 25 of 26 shots in posting the win.

Brandon will be hoping to extend the series to a fifth game Friday night in Edmonton when the two teams hit the ice Wednesday. Puck drop is at 7pm.
