Winther, Morrissey to Represent Canada

Prince Albert SK- Two Prince Albert Raiders, 17-year-old forward Mike Winther and 16-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey, will be representing Canada at the upcoming 2012 World Under-18 Championships in Brno and Znojmo, Czech Republic from April 12-22.Winther finished 2nd among Raider goal scorers this season, finding the back of the net 32 times, and 4th on the team with 56 points. The Trochu, Alberta product also recorded 4 shorthanded goals and a team leading 16 power play markers, tying him for 9th and 8th in the league, respectively. The Raiders first round selection, 6th overall, in the 2009 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft is currently ranked 26th among North American Skaters by the National Hockey League's Central Scouting, and 44th overall by the International Scouting Service for the 2012 NHL Draft this June in Pittsburgh.
Morrissey led all Raiders defencemen with 28 assists and 38 points during his rookie campaign, setting a franchise record for most points by a 16-year-old rearguard in the process. The 6th overall pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft finished the year sitting 2nd in rookie defenceman scoring and 3rd in scoring among all 16-year-olds in the WHL. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Morrissey was named the Raiders Rookie of the Year, as well as Best Conditioned and Scholastic Player of the Year for the 2011-2012 season.
Winther and Morrissey each have previous international experience, both having represented Team Pacific at the World Under-17 Challenge in 2012 and 2011, respectively.
Team Canada will kick off the tournament on April 12 against Denmark. They will take on Finland and the host Czech Republic before finishing the round robin portion of the tournament against the United States on April 17th.
