Western Conference Quarterfinals

Plymouth takes series 4-2

GAME 4:

The puck dropped at the Sleeman Centre for the best-of-seven series with the Storm leading 2 games to 1. The visiting Whalers opened the scoring about midway through the first period with a goal from Tom Wilson. Zack Mitchell answered back late in the period, on the Power Play, to tie the game heading into intermission. Plymouth once again opened the period scoring with a goal from Dario Trutmann at 1:06 with the man advantage. Cody McNaughton answered back moments later, getting his second goal of the post season. The game would once again be tied going into intermission. Plymouth came out in the third period and scored 3 goals. The visiting team took Game 4 by a score of 5-2 and tied the series heading back to Plymouth.

GAME 5:

Looking to take the lead in the series, Guelph rolled into Plymouth for Game 5 on Saturday night. Once again opening the scoring, Plymouth scored short handed at 2:11 of the first period. Guelph answered back at 7:12 with a goal from Francis Menard to tie the game at 1. On the Penalty Kill, Plymouth scored again to take the lead at 10:09. Exactly two minutes later, Veteran Defenceman Kyle Pereira tied the game. In what looked like it was going to be an exciting see-saw affair between these two clubs, Plymouth went on to score four more goals in the first period to take a commanding 6-2 lead to the dressing room. Sparks was pulled after the 5th Whalers goal, after almost 18 minutes of play. Zack Mitchell scored his second of the post season on the Power Play at 11:48 of the second. Plymouth slid 4 goals past Brandon Foote and took the game by a score of 9-3.

GAME 6:

After playing Saturday night in Plymouth, the Storm took to the ice for Game 6 in front of their hometown fans at the Sleeman Centre. Both teams fought hard, and both Garret Sparks and Scott Wedgewood stood tall between the pipes. After one period of play, both teams were scoreless. The only power play opportunity in the first was awarded to Guelph at 10:57. Plymouth opened the scoring at 10:06 on their only power play of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the contest. Only two penalties were handed out in the second period, one to Tom Wilson for hooking and the other to Brock McGinn. It was clear the officials were going to led the teams play and decide the outcome on the ice, not in the penalty box. With 20 minutes left in regulation, the puck dropped to start the third period. Jason Dickinson scored at 4:03 of the third to tie the game, and ignite the passionate 2,624 in attendance who made the arena sound like a sell out with their cheers! After 60 minutes of play, the game was heading to over time. Both teams had incredible chances all game, and with Guelph dominating in overtime they produced several chances to force a Game 7, but Scott Wedgewood stood tall for Plymouth. J.T Miller ended Guelph's postseason at 5:58 of the overtime period.

The 2,624 in attendance gave the Storm a long standing ovation as Veteran players Kyle Pereira, Stephen Gaskin and Brandon Foote skated to centre ice to salute the fans. They were joined by the rest of the team for one final salute of the 2011-2012 season.
