Countdown to Face-Off

April 4, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) Kalamazoo Wings

For the second-time in as many nights, the Kalamazoo Wings will battle the Wheeling Nailers in game two of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Nailers defeated the K-Wings last night 4-2 to take a one game to none in the Best-of-Five Series.

For the second straight season, the K-Wings dropped the first game of the playoffs. Kalamazoo's top two goal scores in the regular season, as Darryl Bootland and Nick Sirota each scored in game one. Including the regular season, Bootland has earned points in five straight games.

Defending home ice in game one, Wheeling scored three times in the final 12 minutes to secure the victory. In game one, the Nailers were led by Andrew Hotham, who had a game-high three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in the 4-2 win.

Sirota Named Player of the Month

Earlier today, forward Nick Sirota was named the ECHL's Player of the Month for March. Sirota recorded 17 points (10 goals, 7 assists) in 15 games in the final month of the season.

Picking Up Where He Left Off

Forward Darryl Bootland is tied for the K-Wings team-lead in postseason goals scored (1). Bootland led the K-wings in the regular season with 25 tallies.

Returning Experience

Kalamazoo has a familiar feel from last season's Eastern Conference championship team. While four members of the K-Wings made their professional playoff debuts last night, nine members, which include two players (Dean Strong and Brandon Svendsen) on the Playoff Reserve List, where on last year's Kelly Cup runner-up squad.

Snapping a Streak

The K-Wings enter tonight looking to snap two streaks. Dating back to last year's postseason, the K-Wings are trying to snap a three-game overall and road losing streaks.
