Gens End Season with Hard Fought Loss

Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals fought hard, but they couldn't stave off elimination in Game 6 on Sunday night. They fell 4-1 to Niagara before a loyal crowd of 4,303 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Tied 1-1 to start of the third, the IceDogs scored 3 straight goals including a shorthanded marker and an empty netter. David Pacan potted a pair, sending Niagara on their way to the second round of the OHL playoffs.In the first period the IceDogs opened scoring at 8:53 thanks to Alex Friesen. Ever resilient, Julian Melchiori responded for Oshawa on the power play at 16:28.
The middle frame was scoreless, mainly due to great goaltending by both net-minders.
The Generals started the third on the power play, but it was Niagara's penalty kill that burned them. David scored a shorthanded marker at 1:36. Pacan sealed Oshawa's fate scoring his second of the night at 16:01. Niagara hit the empty net at 18:40, making it a 4-1 final, securing their ticket to the second round.
Niagara outshot Oshawa 32-28.
David Pacan, Daniel Altshuller and Julian Melchiori were the game's 3 star selections.
Oshawa's over-agers, Andy Andreoff, Julian Melchiori and Daniel Maggio were all applauded for their contributions to the team following the game.
Andy Andreoff leaves Oshawa as the all-time leader in games, setting the record at 281. Includin playoffs, Andreoffhas played in 306 games for the Generals.
