
Sting Defeat Spirit 4-3 in Overtime

On Saturday night the Saginaw Spirit fell to the Sarnia Sting by the score of 4-3 in overtime at The Dow Event Center in game two of their seven game series. Spirit scoring was spread out amongst Carlos Amestoy, Garret Ross and Josh Shalla. Jake Paterson would make 37 saves in net for the Spirit.
Carlos Amestoy opened the Spirit scoring with a shot in the upper left of the net off a pass from Garret Ross. Eric Locke also assisted the goal. This goal was scored at 6:57 into the period.
The Spirit took the 1-0 advantage into the second period. After five minutes of play, Garret Ross scored off a rebound to put the Spirit up 2-0. Brandon Saad and Josh Shalla were credited with the assist. The Sting would answer on the power play as Nail Yakupov scored. His goal was assisted by Alex Galchenyuk and Connor Murphy. The period ends with the Spirit in the lead by a score of 2-1.
A minute and a half into the third period, Ryan Spooner scored for the Sting on a Sarnia two man advantage. This power play goal was assisted by Brett Thompson and Nail Yakupov. Five minutes later, Josh Shalla scored to regain the Spirit lead. The Sting answer back quickly with a goal of their own off the stick of Anthony DeAngelo from Domenic Alberga. The third period ends with a tied score of 3-3 and we proceed into overtime.
After 3:52 of play in overtime, Tyler Brown would score the game-winning goal for the Sting assisted by Craig Hottot and Domenic Alberga.
