Dynamo Drop First of Year

March 24, 2012 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

The Dynamo lost their first game of the season, 2-0, after winning the first two games of the season on the road. Seattle forward David Estrada scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute. A loose ball came to Estarda about 25 yards from goal and he cracked a shot that deflected off Geoff Cameron's foot and changed direction past helpless Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall for a 1-0 lead for Sounders FC.

Four minutes later, Cameron made contact with former Dynamo defender Patrick Ianni and the Sounders were awarded a penalty kick. Seattle captain Brad Evans slotted the spot kick past Hall, who guessed the right direction to dive. The statistics confirmed that Houston was very much in the game- they outshot Seattle 9-7, had more corner kicks (6-5), and enjoyed 55 percent ball possession on the night.

The game could have taken a different course if not for a great save from Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning on 17 minutes. Will Bruin received a nice layoff from Brian Ching and hit a first-touch volley with his left foot. Bruin's shot was headed toward the top of the net but Gspurning parried it over the bar with one hand. It was Houston's best chance on the night.

The Dynamo now have three weeks before their next match, their longest stretch of the season without a game.

After beginning the season with three games against Western Conference opposition, Houston will play clubs from the Eastern Conference its next five games.

Next Match: Sunday, April 15, 6 p.m. CT, Dynamo at Chicago Fire, Toyota Park, Bridgeview, Ill.

Next Home Match: Saturday, May 12, 3:30 p.m., Dynamo vs. D.C. United, BBVA Compass Stadium
