March 14, 2012 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) - Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO, March 13, 2012 - Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman announced today the acquisition of Serbian forward Sonja Petrovic in a deal that sent a 2013 second round draft pick to San Antonio.
"I've had the pleasure of coaching Sonja for the past few years and her skill set and basketball IQ can't be denied," said Chatman. "She can shoot the three, put it on the floor, crash the boards well for her size, and impact our transition game. I'm looking forward to having her join our team."
Petrovic, the 26th overall draft pick in 2009, is currently averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds per game for Sparta&K. This is her fourth year in the EuroLeague and third playing in Russia.
The twenty-three year old forward was also a member of the gold-medal winning Serbian team at the 2007 FIBA European Championships.
The Sky begins its season on the road against an Eastern conference rival, the Washington Mystics on Saturday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m., followed by the team's home opener at Allstate Arena vs. the Indiana Fever on Friday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.
