Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN - The Sea Dogs Foundation is partnering with a renowned Canadian artist in a fundraising promotion that will give supporters an opportunity to purchase valuable sculptures at a special price.
Inuit and wildlife sculptor David Bernett is offering his internationally-acclaimed granite bas-relief sculptures, normally a $250 value, for $175 through the Sea Dogs Foundation.
The Ottawa-born artist, who has produced sculptures for several high-profile organizations, tournaments and events, will share profits with the foundation. Proceeds will be used to support non-profit groups that focus on youth initiatives.
"We are very pleased that David Bernett has included the Sea Dogs Foundation as one of his sponsored projects. These are life-long personal treasures and they also make great corporate gifts and awards," says Barry Reid, executive director of the Sea Dogs Foundation.
Bernett is offering a choice of six sculptures: "The Take Off," "Formation," "Orca Family," "Mother and Child," "Looking Towards the Future," and "Partners." Each 12-inch-by-12-inch sculpture comes complete with acrylic stand, sculptor profile and letter of authenticity. Sample sculptures will be on display on the Harbour Station concourse at Sea Dogs home games throughout the 2012 President's Cup playoffs.
"We want the public to witness these in person to appreciate the exceptional quality," Reid says. "Not only are they wonderful pieces, but each purchase will help support the Sea Dogs Foundation and the youth of today."
Bernett's Canadian Inuit and wildlife sculptures grace private and corporate collections the world over, and he has long been involved in fundraising. The Prime Minister of Canada in June 1995 honoured the Bernetts by purchasing sculptures to welcome the world at the G-7 Conference in Halifax. Large organizations such as Dow Chemicals, Hitachi, Microsoft, Kraft Foods, Motorole, Kodak Canada, Great West Life, the National Hockey League and the Canadian Football League have commissioned Bernett sculptures.
"I want to give the Sea Dogs fans and their corporate supporters two reasons to acquire my sculptures," Bernett says. "Firstly an opportunity to help support the Sea Dogs Foundation. Secondly, we'll reward the buyers by offering a great price that is not offered in my other shows or exhibits."
Interested buyers can make a deposit at the concourse display and pick up sculptures through the Sea Dogs office at a later date. For further information, email info@seadogsfoundation.com or contact the Sea Dogs office at 657-DOGS (3647).
