Winning Streak Continues Against Rocket

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs enjoyed another big offensive night with an 8-1 win over the Prince Edward Island Rocket Friday.

Jonathan Huberdeau had four goals to lead the Sea Dogs, Stephen MacAulay tallied twice and Charlie Coyle racked up four assists. Danick Gauthier had three assists, Ryan Tesink and Charles Roussel had two helperss each, and Stanislav Galiev and Zack Phillips chipped in single goals. Sebastien Auger made 14 saves for the win as the Sea Dogs improved to 46-14-0-2, tops in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A crowd of 5,833 at Harbour Station watched Saint John's winning streak reach 16 straight games, the longest in the Canadian Hockey League this season.

Louick Marcotte scored for the Rocket and Maxime Lagace made 34 saves in the loss.

Huberdeau scored his first of the night at 13:40 of the first. The Sea Dogs captain took a feed from Coyle inside the blueline and snapped a shot underneath defenceman Marc-Andre Levesque and past Lagace. Gauthier picked up the other assist.

Huberdeau made it 2-0 just 1:20 into the second. Charles Roussel made a nice keep-in of a hot Nathan Beaulieu pass to the point from down low, and fired a laser of a wrist shot that Huberdeau tipped past Lagace.

The Florida Panthers prospect completed the natural hat trick at 5:25 of the middle frame, banking a shot behind Lagace off the left wing. Coyle and Gauthier collected the assists on the goal.

Tesink had a chance to make it 4-0 with about seven minutes left in the second. Fellow St. Louis Blues prospect MacAulay sent a perfect feed in front from the left wing that Tesink deflected off the crossbar with a deft backhand that was just millimetres too high.

Galiev made it 4-0 with an absolute blast at 19:58, taking a feed from Tesink and winding up for a full-force slap shot past Lagace's glove hand and under the crossbar.

Marcotte broke the shutout with a short-handed breakaway goal at 6:36 of the third.

MacAulay restored the four-goal lead at 10:30 with a short-handed goal. Gauthier assisted on the marker, MacAulay's 12th of the season.

Phillips made it 6-1 at 14:46, taking a cross-ice pass from Jurco and roofing it high to Lagace's blocker side. Roussel picked up the other assist on the goal, the 29th of the year for Phillips.

MacAulay added a power-play goal at 17:30. Coyle collected the assist on the goal, MacAulay's 13th. Huberdeau made it a four-goal night at 18:49. Coyle and Tesink assisted on the goal, Huberdeau's 27th.

The Sea Dogs take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Saturday in the final home game of the regular season, a 7 p.m. start. The annual Fan Appreciation Night will feature thousands of dollars in giveaways from sponsors.
