Vancouver Giants News Release
Brendan Gallagher became the all-time franchise leader in career points, scoring 2 goals in the Vancouver Giants 5-3 victory over the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops. Gallagher now has 274 career points, passing Adam Courchaine for top spot on the all-time list.
Coming in on a 3 game losing skid, the Giants got off to a great start as Riley Kieser won a draw right back to Brendan Gallagher who slapped home his 37th goal of the season. However, the Blazers would score just 14 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. Before the period was out the home side would score again to go up 2-1 through 20 minutes.
Early in the second period on the power play, the Blazers extended their lead to 3-1 as Brendan Ranford scored his 2nd goal of the night. The Giants though were firing everything at the net and eventually would be rewarded as Jackson Houck potted his 7th goal of the year to cut the lead to 3-2. Then just 54 seconds later, Brett Kulak on a beautiful individual effort scored his 9th goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. That is how things stood after two periods. The Giants outshot the Blazers 16-6 in the frame.
Both teams had opportunities in the the third period to take the lead. The Giants were unable to capitalize on 2 power plays, but would on the third. Austin Madaisky took a hooking penalty with just under a minute remaining in regulation and Marek Tvrdon snapped home his 23rd of the season with 34.6 seconds left. That would prove to be the game winning goal. Gallagher would add an empty netter with 4.4 seconds left for his record setting point. 5-3 was the final. Adam Morrison made 18 saves for his 32nd victory of the season. The Giants finished 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Blazers went 1-for-4.
Gallagher now has 133 goals and 141 assists for 274 points in his career in a Vancouver Giants uniform. He managed to set the record in 236 games. This season Gallagher leads the Giants with 38 goals and 33 assists for 71 points.
The Giants are back in action Friday March 2, 2012 when they play host to the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Pacific Coliseum. It is the second and final meeting of the season. Puck drop is 7:30 pm. The pregame show begins at 7:00 pm on AM 650.
