Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Fighting Saints will present their version of that * other* awards show on Friday night, when the team hosts "The Bernies" for the first time. The team will present awards to fans to recognize them in a diverse group of categories throughout the evening, taking the opportunity to thank some of their most loyal and boisterous supporters. Named after the Fighting Saints mascot Bernie the Saint Bernard, The Bernies are expected to quickly become one of the most coveted awards in the Key City.

While the Oscars may have Billy Crystal hosting their show on Sunday, the Fighting Saints will rely on the capable personalities of public address voice Doug Collins and on-ice host Kory Woolfolk to set the mood on Friday night. Although the Academy Awards will be broadcast to the nation on ABC, the Bernies will be not be without a television presence. The game will be carried live throughout Eastern Iowa on KCRG 9.2, the sister station of an ABC affiliate.

The Kodak Theatre will provide a magnificent home for the Oscars, and the Fighting Saints are confident that the Mystique Community Ice Center will supply the perfect venue and environment for the inaugural Bernies. The Fighting Saints Kids Zone, featuring a bounce house, will keep the atmosphere fun at "Our House". In contrast, the Oscars discontinued their inflatables area after host Steve Martin ripped his tuxedo at the 75thAcademy Awards in 2003. (This press release has been nominated for a Bernie for "Goofiest Press Release".)

Fans are encouraged to wear their finest formalwear for the evening, but should be advised that they will need to accommodate (or dodge) paparazzi upon their arrival at the game. Awards will be presented to fans, players, and coaches in several categories. The most eagerly anticipated categories include: Best Costume Design by a Fan, Best Supporting Actor (most assists), and Outstanding Performance in a Promotional Game.

The Fighting Saints will host the Waterloo Black Hawks for the night's on-ice matchup. The game is slated to start at the fashionably late time of 7:35 p.m., though the doors will open at 6 p.m. to allow for a multitude of red carpet photo and interview opportunities.

Tickets to the game are available by phone at (563) 583-6880 and in person at the Mystique Community Ice Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on game night up until the start of the second period. Tickets are available 24 hours a day online at DubuqueFightingSaints.com.
