
Weekly Update: Rapids Preseason Training Underway

COLORADO RAPIDS OPEN 2012 PRESEASON: The Colorado Rapids hit the field on Monday for the team's first training session of 2012, and will be running double sessions later in the week at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Under new Head Coach Oscar Pareja, the Rapids will be in Denver, California and Hawaii during preseason, with several scrimmages lined up ahead of the March 10 season opener against the Columbus Crew at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
NEW FACES IN PRESEASON CAMP: Since the close of the 2011 season, the Rapids have added two players to their roster: defender Hunter Freeman, who returns to the club where he began his MLS career, and midfielder Tony Cascio, the 14th overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. In addition, several other players have been invited to preseason camp, including Supplemental Draft picks Kohei Yamada and Joel Helmick, Rapids combine standouts Sam Archer and Isaac Cowles, MLS veterans Steve Cronin and Aaron Pitchkolan, internationals Edrissa Jarra and Daniel Navarro, and Academy players Dillon Serna and Shane O'Neill. PRESEASON MATCHES SCHEDULED: The Rapids already have several preseason matches on the schedule, with a scrimmage against Chivas USA the first on the calendar. The team's schedule for scrimmages and exhibition matches is below:

LARENTOWICZ STARTS IN U.S. VICTORY OVER VENEZUELA: Colorado Rapids midfielder Jeff Larentowicz earned his third cap with the U.S. Men's National Team on Saturday, January 21 when he started and played 62 minutes in the 1-0 shutout victory over Venezuela. The team next faces Panama at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City on January 25 at 6:30 p.m. MT (ESPN3, Galavision).
