Early Deficit Too Much for Storm, Lose 4-2

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm could not overcome an early three-goal deficit in the second period and fell short to the Fargo Force for the fourth-consecutive time this season 4-2. The Storm remain two points back of sixth-place Sioux City in the Western Conference standings.

Fargo (15-13-3, 33 pts - 4th in Western Conference) scored on the power play 2:33 into the first period on RW Dave Gust's fifth goal of the season. RW Taylor Fleming would net his second goal of the season and second in as many nights at the 6:51 mark to push the Fargo lead to 2-0 before the end of the first period.

The Force would net the game-winning goal 8:36 into the second period on C Bryn Chyzyk's 17th goal of the season from RW Austin Farley and D Brian Cooper. Cooper ended the night with two assists.

Tri-City (11-21-0, 22 pts - 8th in Western Conference) would finally score to get the teddy bears on the ice on Teddy Bear Toss night, as C Tim Bonner scored a little more than two minutes following Chyzyk's goal from LW Jared Linnell and D J.D. Peterson.

The Storm would cut the Fargo lead to one goal just 32 seconds into the third period on C Nick Lappin's team-leading 17th goal of the season from D John Hrabovsky and RW Kenny Brooks. The assist by Brooks ended an eight-game assist-less drought by the third-year winger.

However, Farley would put away the Storm with an empty-net goal with 44 seconds left in regulation and became the third player in the USHL to hit the 20-goal mark this season.

Storm G Pheonix Copley (8-13-0) made 28 saves on 31 shots in the loss for the Storm. G Zane Gothberg (11-8-2) finished the game with 24 saves on 26 shots receiving the win for the Force.

Tri-City went 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Storm are on the road Tuesday night in Lincoln to play the Stars. The Breeze 94.5 FM will air the game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Shows starting at 6:45 p.m.
