
Morris Posts Double-Double in Win Over Dakota

HIDALGO, Texas- Houston Rockets assignee Marcus Morris scored a team high 32 points with 12 rebounds as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers avenged a Friday night defeat with a 114-100 victory over the Dakota Wizards Saturday night at the State Farm Arena.
The Vipers offense was on fire from the opening tip as they outscored the Wizards 36-12 in the first quarter. After Edwin Ubiles scored a lay-up to make the score 9-5, the Vipers responded with an 11-0 run to take a 20-5 advantage. Later in the period Kelvin Lewis hit a three-pointer with 2:21 remaining to push the Viper lead to 32-11. The Vipers scored the last four points of the period to take a 24 point lead into the second.
The prolific Viper offense continued into the second period as well. Dakota cut the deficit to 18 with 6:08 to play until halftime on a Marcus Dove lay-up to make the score 48-30. RGV then responded with a 17-7 tun to take a 65-37 lead into the locker room.
Dakota would rally in the second half by outscoring the Vipers 36-22 in the third quarter to close the deficit to 87-72 going into the final period.
The Wizards closed the gap to eight at 108-100 with 44 seconds remaining. The Vipers would not allow Dakota to get any closer as they scored the final six points including a final three-pointer from new acquisition Willie Warren to clinch the victory.
Morris posted his second-straight double-double in his first pair of games on assignment from Houston. Damian Saunders also posted a double-double for RGV with 16 points and 12 boards. Lee Humphrey tallied a trio of three-pointers for the second straight night as he scored 14.
Ubilies once again led the Wizards by scoring 36 with seven rebounds in the losing effort. Mo Baker scored 20 but only had four assists after posting 12 dishes just one night ago. Mike Anderson chipped in with 13 points for Dakota.
The Vipers, along with the rest of the NBA Development League, will travel to Reno, NV to participate in next week's 2011 NBA Development League Showcase. The Vipers first game will be on Monday night against Showcase host Reno Bighorns. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 PM.
