Five Hawks to Appear in Prospects Showcase

January 5, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Waterloo Black Hawks

Waterloo, Iowa-National Hockey League scouts will take a close look at five members of the Waterloo Black Hawks and the USHL's other top draft candidates on January 24th during the 2012 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Muskegon, Michigan, the league announced Thursday.

Included on the game roster are forwards Taylor Cammarata, Vince Hinostroza, A.J. Michaelson, defenseman Ian McCoshen, and goaltender Jay Williams. More Black Hawks players are slated to appear in the game than representatives from any other single team. Michaelson and Hinostroza were each recognized on the Central Scouting preseason watch list released in November, while Williams was ranked 12th in the final ranking of 2011 draft eligible goaltenders last spring. Cammarata and McCoshan are two of only three players appearing in the Top Prospects Game who are too young for the 2012 NHL Draft, but are highly regarded for selection in 2013.

"I am very excited for these guys who have been working hard since coming to Waterloo," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "All five of them have bright futures ahead of them, and this event will be an opportunity for each of them to show what they can do."

In total, 40 USHL players from 14 teams were chosen for the Top Prospects Game. The selection process for the players was completed in cooperation with USHL General Managers, NHL scouts and decision makers, and NHL Central Scouting. The roster for the event will be divided up into two squads announced at a later date. L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, home of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, will be the host venue for the event.

Waterloo takes the ice for two home games at Young Arena this weekend. Tomorrow the Hawks host the Indiana Ice before welcoming their Cowbell Cup rivals, the Dubuque Fighting Saints, to town Saturday. Both games begin at 7:05. Good seats still remain for both contests and can be ordered by calling the Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or online from waterlooblackhawks.com.
