Jam Players Invited to NBA Training Camps

December 9, 2011 - NBA G League (G League) - Bakersfield Jam News Release

BAKERSFIELD, December 9, 2011 - Three Bakesfield Jam players have been invited to attend 2011 NBA Training Camps, including Brian Butch to the New Orleans Hornets, and Adam Koch and Renaldo Major to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Butch returned to Bakersfield after sitting out last season due to a leg injury he suffered at the 2010 NBA Summer League. His basketball comeback began when he was named to the USA Basketball Men's Pan American Games Team, helping the US win a Bronze Medal. The 2010 NBA D-League All-Star Most Valuable Player and 2010 NBA D-League Impact Player of the Year, Butch averaged 19.8 points and 12.5 rebounds in 4 games with the Jam this season, recording three double-doubles.

"I'm very thankful for the opportunity that the New Orleans Hornets have given me. I hope to go there, play the best way I can and continue doing what I'm doing here," said Brian Butch before departing for Training Camp. "When I got hurt, it was always in my mind that I was going to find a way back and that was always my focus and it still is right now. I want to get back to the NBA, I want to be there, I want to stick. That's my goal. I'm really excited for this opportunity and can't wait to take advantage of it."

2009-10 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Koch returned for his second season with the Jam, averaging 8.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 5 games this year.

"I'm very excited to go to the Los Angeles Clippers Training Camp. It's what you work for in the NBA D-League, that chance to go up to the next level and play," said Koch. "To be able to go to the Clippers and join their training camp, it's a very exciting opportunity, especially because the Jam are affiliated with them."

Four year NBA Development League veteran, Major was acquired by the Jam in a trade with the Dakota Wizards prior to the start of the season. He has averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and ranked fourth in the league in the blocked shots per game category, averaging 2.2 blocks a game this year.

"I want to thank Coach Voigt for putting me in a position to get there," said Renaldo Major on being invited to the Los Angeles Clippers training camp. "He runs a good offense and preaches defense and that is what I'm about- defense. I'm excited to go to the Clippers camp. I'm ready to go down there and play defense and hopefully I can make a roster spot. I'm going there with an open mind, ready to work hard and to show my work ethic and my defensive skills."

Three members of the Jam's last year's team also received NBA Training Camps invitations, including Trey Johnson to the New Orleans Hornets, and Derrick Byars and Jeremy Wise to the Miami Heat.

In addition, Bakersfield acquired guard Derrick O'Neil from the available player pool, the team announced today. O'Neil attended Florida Gulf Coast where he averaged 6.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 games during the 2009-10 season.
