Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs saw their team-record 15-game home winning streak come to an end Sunday as the Chicoutimi Sagueneens handed them an 8-3 loss.

Etienne Brodeur had a hat trick and added two assists for Chicoutimi, Charles Hudon scored twice and Lukas Sedlak chipped in a goal and three assists. Dominic Poulin and Andrew O'Brien added singles to round out the summary and former Sea Dog Gabriel Bourret had three assists and a plus-6 rating. Christopher Gibson made 26 saves for the win as Chicoutimi improved to 13-10-3-5.

Tomas Jurco scored a pair for Saint John and Charles Roussel had the other. Nathan Beaulieu and Zack Phillips picked up two assists each. Although the loss snapped Saint John's home winning streak, Phillips maintained his personal points streak. The Minnesota Wild prospect has recorded at least one point in 22 straight games, a team record and the longest streak in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season.

Mathieu Corbeil made 14 saves on 18 shots before giving way to Sebastien Auger at 8:50 of the second period. Auger stopped 13 of 17 shots the rest of the way.

Hudon got Chicoutimi off to a good start, burying a one-timer to give the Sags a 1-0 lead.

Roussel equalized on the power play at 5:51. Beaulieu found him in the slot with a backhand pass from the right wing and the overage defenceman redirected it home for his eighth. Danick Gauthier recorded the other assist.

Jurco gave the Sea Dogs their only lead of the night at 14:15. The slick Slovakian picked up the puck in the left-wing corner, dangled out to the bottom of the circle, looked pass, then whipped a wrist shot just inside the post to Gibson's blocker side. Beaulieu and Phillips assisted on the play, as Phillips extended his points streak to 22.

Brodeur started his scoring spree at 16:28 of the first, then gave Chicoutimi a 3-2 lead at 3:57 of the second. Poulin added another marker at 8:50 of the middle frame, bringing Corbeil's night to an end.

Saint John seemed to get a brief lift in front of Auger, as Jurco struck again at 12:17 to make it 4-3. Roussel tapped a pass from the point to Jurco and he roofed another shot high to the blocker side from the left-wing circle. Phillips picked up the other assist on the goal, Jurco's 19th.

The Sags came out strong in the third, however, as Hudon scored at 2:11 and Brodeur completed his hat trick at 4:35 to give Chicoutimi a 6-3 cushion.

O'Brien, at 12:30, and Sedlak, at 14:28, rounded out the summary.

Saint John continues its four-game home stand next weekend against a pair of divisional rivals. The Dogs host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Friday at 7:30 p.m., while the Halifax Mooseheads visit at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday's game will be the annual Holiday Fun Day, with a visit from Santa Claus planned along with the return of the Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game and throw them on the ice when the Sea Dogs score their first goal of the night. The bears will be distributed to needy families through the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program. This game will also feature a "Change Bandit" promotion organized by the Sea Dogs Foundation, with volunteers from local youth hockey teams collecting change to be donated to the Empty Stocking Fund.
