Cooper opened the scoring at 10:17 of the first. Parked in front on a power play, the rookie took a feed from Tesink and buried a low one-timer. Kevin Gagne picked up the other assist on the goal, Cooper's seventh.

Shaw had a chance to equalize when he got in behind the defence with about two minutes to go in the frame, but fanned on the puck. Shaw fanned on another great chance early in the second after he found himself alone in front thanks to a Saint John turnover. But the Florida Panthers prospect couldn't get the puck to sit for him.

Tesink had an opportunity to extend the lead with the Dogs short-handed about five minutes in to the middle frame, but lost the handle on his deke. Anderson, who skated alongside Phillips and Tomas Jurco most of the evening, was the beneficiary of a two nice setups from Phillips midway through the second, but Trudeau turned away his quick shots.

Late in the second, Cooper had a nice end-to-end rush, cutting around a defender on the right wing, but couldn't get the puck back to his forehand for a shot.

Gauthier finally found the insurance marker at 17:07. Tesink slipped a nice little pass across the blueline to Gauthier, who went in on the right wing, used linemate Scott Oke as a decoy and fired a wrist shot from the faceoff circle that got through Trudeau. Nathan Beaulieu picked up the other assist on the score, which moved Gauthier into a tie with league leader Zach O'Brien of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 26 goals.

Cooper nearly made it 3-0 on a rebound try with about 30 seconds to go, but Trudeau recovered to his left to make the save just in time.

Just over five minutes into the third Auger made a spectacular save of his own, recovering to his rights and dropping into the splits to rob William Carrier on a rebound. The highlight-reel stop earned the rookie goaltender several taps on the pads from his teammates and an appreciative ovation from the fans.

Auger continued to look confident, flashing his glove hand to pluck the puck out of a pair of goalmouth scrambles and keep the score 2-0.

Anderson made it 3-0, finally cashing in on his opportunity to play on the top line, as he knocked one home from in close at 10:06 for his third goal. Phillips recorded the assist, as he extended his points streak to 19 games.

Shaw broke Auger's shutout at the 15:09 mark.

Phillips rounded out the summary at 19:59 with an empty-net goal, his 16thof the year, assisted by Beaulieu.
