The game started off in a rush for the Sea Dogs, with a puck popping out to Jurco, who just missed high on the first shift of the game. Grant West and Blake Millman dropped the gloves at 14:59, with neither fighter landing a decisive blow. The Screaming Eagles opened the scoring at 17:13 of the first on the marker by Brunelle. The Sea Dogs managed to stall any Screaming Eagles momentum after killing a late penalty to end the period.

The Eagles potted their second to start the middle frame with Rose connecting just 28 seconds in. The lead didn't last long though, as the Sea Dogs came back to score two goals in rapid succession to tie it back up. Just 15 seconds after the Cape Breton goal, Gauthier potted his 25th goal of the season from just inside the left wing faceoff circle on a feed from Oke and Kevin Gagne. Just over a minute later at 1:56, Jurco took a nice pass from Oliver Cooper and buried it from three feet out to pull the Dogs even. Roussel made the first pass to break out of the zone and notched his first assist of the game.

The rough stuff continued with two fights in two seconds. First, Ian Saab dropped the gloves in the heavyweight division with Roman Hrabarenka at 4:27, followed shortly by a split decision in the middleweight class featuring Denis Creighton in his first QMJHL fight taking on Kyle Campbell at 4:29.

Oke put the Sea Dogs ahead exactly 10 minutes after the second Sea Dogs goal. At 11:56 Ryan Tesink sent Oke flying down the right wing. He rifled the shot from the faceoff dot over the blocker of Veronneau for his seventh goal of the season. Roussel had the second assist for his second point of the game.

Beaulieu extended Saint John's lead on a bullet from the point 24 seconds into the third. Phillips extended his point streak with the assist from the corner. West continued the onslaught at 4:55, deking past the Cape Breton defence and sliding one past Veronneau for his fourth of the year. Jason Seed started the play out of the zone and tallied the lone assist on the play. The penalty kill units were active in the game, with the Sea Dogs going 5-for-5 on the night, including killing off two penalties in the final frame.
