Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Fighting Saints, in conjunction with the USHL, are pleased to announce that Gabe Antoni has been named a co-winner of the CCM Goaltender of the Week award. Antoni continued his brilliant start to his USHL career with a pair of road wins over the weekend. He saved 18 of 19 shots on Friday night as the Fighting Saints defeated the Sioux City Musketeers by a score of 3-1. He continued his solid play the following evening, stopping 26 of 27 shots in a 4-1 win over the Fargo Force.
Antoni was thrust directly into the spotlight for the Fighting Saints due to an injury to Matt Morris just over a week ago, and there has been no drop-off in goaltender production with last season's Clark Cup Playoff MVP unavailable to play. Antoni has performed exceptionally well for Dubuque, winning all four games he has appeared in, compiling a 1.05 goals against average, and posting a save percentage of .953. Both his goals against average and save percentage lead the USHL. He is a native of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and he is committed to attend Clarkson University in 2012.
Antoni shares the honor this week with Ryan McKay of the Green Bay Gamblers, who also allowed only two total goals in his team's road wins over Fargo and Sioux City.
The Fighting Saints will return to the ice in Dubuque this Friday night against the Chicago Steel. It will be the lone Fighting Saints home game in a stretch of ten of eleven matchups away from the Key City.
Friday is Military Appreciation Night - the Fighting Saints will wear custom camouflage jerseys during the game that will be auctioned off following the contest to raise funds for the Veteran's Freedom Center in Dubuque. Active military personnel and veterans can receive a discount of $3 per ticket by presenting military ID at the box office for orders up to six tickets. Tickets can be purchased by calling (563) 583-6880, on DubuqueFightingSaints.com, or by stopping by the Mystique Community Ice Center box office from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
