Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri- The Missouri Mavericks announced Thursday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has begun their affiliation agreement with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Chicago Wolves by signing three players to two-way contracts. Goaltender Charlie Effinger, defenseman David Pszenyczny and defenseman Dustin Friesen have all signed two-way contracts.

The Mavericks and Wolves recently announced an affiliation agreement between the two clubs and this is the first announcement of player transactions since the relationship began. The Wolves are the primary AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Vancouver Canucks. The Mavericks previously announced the signings of Effinger and Pszenyczny, and Friesen was signed by the Wolves and becomes the third player to be on a two-way contract.

"I am excited for our fans and organization to see this immediate benefit from our affiliation," said Mavericks' President and General Manager Brent Thiessen.

Friesen, 28 (3/1/83), becomes the 30th and final player to be signed to the Mavericks' pre-season roster and enters his third season professionally. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman has played a total of 126 games in two seasons in the ECHL and AHL with 51 points (9-4251) overall. The Waldheim, Saskatchewan native has five points (2-35) and 10 penalty minutes in 28 games played over two seasons with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has also played a total of 98 games in the ECHL with Idaho and Utah and has accounted for seven goals and 39 assists.

"We are very excited to have Dustin as a part of our organization," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman "This is a great opportunity for these three players to be signed to two-way deals."

The Missouri Mavericks will begin their third season in the Central Hockey League in October.
