Terdoslavich Stands Alone

Lynchburg, VA- It came down the the final game of the 2011 season, but Joey Terdoslavich was able to break the 65-year old Carolina League record for doubles and the Hillcats beat the Winston-Salem Dash 4-3 on Monday afternoon.

Joey Terdoslavich simultaneously gave the Hillcats the early lead and made history in the first inning. With Shawn McGill on first, Joey Terdoslavich hit a drive off the wall in left-center. McGill came in to score, and Terdoslavich cruised in to second base standing up. It was his 52nd double of the season, setting a new Carolina League record.

Andy Wilkins hit an RBI double of his own in the fourth inning, tying the game up at one.

The Hillcats retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Andrelton Simmons and McGill hit singles to lead off the inning. Joey Terdoslavich walked to load the bases, and Joe Leonard worked the count for a walk of his own, giving the Hillcats the lead. Geraldo Rodriguez also came through with an RBI single, putting the Hillcats up 3-1.

The Dash responded right away. With runners on the corners, Jared Mitchell hit a triple to right, scoring both runners and tying the game at three.

The Hillcats struck the final blow in the bottom of the seventh. Simmons stood on third with one out as Terdoslavich stepped up to the plate. Terdoslavich hit a fly ball to right field, and Simmons challenged the arm of Ciolli. Simmons was able to beat the throw to the plate, to give the Hillcats the 4-3 lead, which held up for the rest of the game.

David Hale (4-6) earned the win, pitched seven innings for the Hillcats. Leroy Hunt (3-3) took the loss for the Dash. Ryan Buchter pitched a hitless ninth to earn his 15th save of the season.

The Hillcats finish the season with a win, and end with a 30-38 record in the second half, 60-78 overall.
