Chivas USA Ties 1-1 Vs. San Jose Earthquakes in MLS Reserves League Match

August 2, 2011 - Major League Soccer (MLS) Club Deportivo Chivas USA

CARSON, CA. (Tuesday, July 26, 2011) - Chivas USA tied 1-1 against the San Jose Earthquakes in an MLS Reserve League match at The Home Depot Center this Tuesday afternoon. In a match that from its beginning was hard fought in the midfield in which the Goats had opportunities they couldn't unfortunately capitalize on. Francisco "Panchito" Mendoza's play and ability to recover the ball stood out and the Red and White's resistance in spite of playing with only 10 men after a 35th minute red card saw Paulo Nagamura to an early shower.

The first half of the match remained scoreless despite the likes of Chivas USA's forwards Marcos Mondaini, Victor Estupiñan and Chris Cortes attempt on several occasions to reach the back of the net. Even with the fact they were down a man the Goats were able to hold the Earthquakes to zero.

Chivas USA began the second half with its first sub as Goalkeeper Sergio Arias replaced Zach Thorton and San Jose subbed forward Ellis McLoughlin for Georges Ba a trialist for the Earthquakes whom eventually would break the 0-0 tie.

San Jose came out in the second half very aggressive and on the attack, making note on the fact the Red and White were down a man. In the 65th minute it would pay off for them as a center from midfielder Rafael Baca to trialist forward Georges Ba would put the Earthquakes up 1-0.

The equalizer would come for Chivas USA in the 70th minute when forward Chris Cortez attempted a center pass and defender Nana Attakora had a hand ball in the box. The referee of the match signaled the PK and forward for the Goats, Marcos Mondaini tied it up at 1-1.

Chivas USA resumes Reserve League play on September 3rd when they'll host Vancouver Whitecaps at The Home Depot Center.
