JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - Steve Delabar saved his 10th game Saturday night as the Generals defeated the Mudcats at Five County Stadium 4-3, but it was not easy. The Mudcats loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Delabar got Denis Phipps to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game. The Generals won their third straight despite being out-hit by Carolina 11-5. Tom Wihelmsen (3-4) earned the victory for Jackson and worked a season high 7.2 innings. Wilhelmsen allowed three runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking two. Brandon Hynick (1-2) took the loss for Carolina going 7.1 innings and surrendering four runs (three earned). Delabar matches Scott Patterson with 10 saves on the season, pitching a scoreless 1.1 innings on the back end. No Generals recorded multi-hit games but Joe Dunigan finished 1-for-3 with a walk and the game winning two RBI's in the eighth inning. Denis Phipps was 3-for-5 for Carolina and Neftali Soto ended the night 2-for-4, each collecting an RBI in the loss for the Mudcats.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: The Generals have scored 51 runs over their last 7 games coming in to today's matinee game with the Mudcats. Jackson is 8-7 in day games this season and today's starter Andrew Carraway is 2-0, with a 3.95 ERA in daytime starts in 2011. With the 4-3 win yesterday, the Generals are now 14-13 in 1-run games this season and are 37-22 when scoring 4 or more runs in a game.
TODAY'S STARTER: RHP Andrew Carraway makes the start this afternoon against the Carolina Mudcats. Carraway ranks 6th in the league in ERA (3.26), 4th in opponents batting average (.224) and 2nd in WHIP (1.06). Andrew is 2-0 in his last 3 starts going 6 or more innings in 2 of 3.
PRYOR TO PRO DAYS: RHP Stephen Pryor returns to the Volunteer state after prepping at Friendship Christian High School and attending Cleveland State CC in Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech in Cookville. While at FCS, he led Commanders to the 2007 State Championship defeating Jackson Christian 13-3 at MTSU's Floyd Stadium.
ALUMNI REPORT: Dustin Ackley continued his on base streak last night in the Mariners 5-1 loss to the Texas Rangers with a double. He recorded his 19th hit in 23 games since his debut with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 9 RBI. Ackley has also reached base safely via hit or walk in 21 of 23 games.
FINAL TRIP TO ZEBULON: This is the Mudcats' final year as the Double-A affiliate for the Cincinnati Reds before the franchise moves to Pensacola, FL, and is replaced at Five County Stadium by the Class A Carolina League club currently playing its final season as the Kinston Indians. This is the 21st year of Double-A baseball in Zebulon, NC
