Chukars Announce Position Players

The 2011 Idaho Falls Chukars projected roster is now complete, as the team has released the list of position players expected to be on the squad Opening Day.

Three players who spent time in Idaho Falls last season return in outfielders Cameron Conner and Juan Polonia and infielder Michael Liberto.

Four newly drafted players (shown in bold) are also included in the expected roster. UCLA first baseman Rich Espy (15th round) headlines the group, which also includes Scottsdale Community College catcher Lance Harper (23rd round), Louisiana Tech University third baseman Mark Threlkeld (25th round), and outfielder Tyler Chism (43rd round) from Gonzaga.

The 21-year-old Espy led the Bruins in batting average last season with a .320 mark to go along with three homeruns, 15 doubles, and 40 RBI. Harper hit .335 while catching for Scottsdale. Threlkeld led the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs with 19 doubles and was second on the team with nine homeruns and 45 RBI. Chism placed second on the Gonzaga squad with five homeruns and 27 RBI, while also slapping 10 doubles and batting .313 overall.

The remaining eight players are all from the Royals system and their bios/stats are available at the Minor League Baseball website (www.milb.com). The lone exception is catcher Jared Dyer, who last year batted .226 with three RBI in 18 games with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League.
