Three Chivas USA Players Called up for International Friendlies Next Week

May 28, 2011 - Major League Soccer (MLS) Club Deportivo Chivas USA

CARSON, Calif. (Saturday, May 28, 2011).- Three Chivas USA players have been called-up to play international friendly matches with their national teams next week. Defender Andrew Boyens and midfielder Simon Elliott have been named by head coach Ricki Herbert to the New Zealand National Team, while forward Alejandro Moreno has been named by head coach Cesar Farias to the Venezuelan National Team that is preparing for the 2011 Copa America.

Boyens will report with the New Zealand National Team for the matches against Mexico on June 1st at Invesco Field in Denver and for the June 5th match against Australia in Adelaide, Australia. Boyens, 27, will miss the next two Red-and-White matches against the Vancouver Whitecaps (6/1), and the Portland Timbers (6/4) at The Home Depot Center. Elliot, 32, will be with the New Zealand National Team for the June 1st match against Mexico and is expected to be back for next Saturday's match against Portland at The Home Depot Center. Both Boyens and Elliott have played 6 games with the Red-and-White this season, all of them as starters.

Moreno will report with the Venezuelan National Team for the friendly matches against Guatemala on June 1st and Spain on June 4th and is expected to be back with the Red-and-White for the June 11th game at Houston. Moreno, 32, is tied with Justin Braun as the team's leading scorer with 3 goals and 2 assists in 9 games (9 starts).

After Saturday's game against the Columbus Crew, Chivas USA will face MLS expansion teams and Western Conference rivals Vancouver Whitecaps (June 1st) and Portland Timbers (June 4th) in back to back games at The Home Depot Center.
