Earthquakes Extend Unbeaten Streak to Four Games With 2-2 Tie in the Windy City Against the Fire

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The San Jose Earthquakes are now unbeaten in their past four matches following a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park Saturday night. Earthquakes midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong came on as a sub at halftime and sparked the Quakes attack with two assists. Ramiro Corrales and Chris Wondolowksi scored the goals for San Jose, while Dominic Oduro and Cory Gibbs found the net for the Fire.

Ampaipitakwong set up the Quakes first goal in the 49th minute with a perfect service on a corner kick that found Corrales in the box and he headed it into the far post for the 1-0 lead. After Oduro tied the score, Ampaipitakwong helped San Jose regain the lead. Corrales drew two defenders and dropped a ball for Ampaipitakwong, who chipped a cross to Wondolowski in the box. Wondolowski, who joins the U.S. National Team for training camp Sunday in preparation for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, flicked a header past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson for a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute. Gibbs brought the Fire level again six minutes later with a header of his own to prevent San Jose from winning its third straight.

The Quakes head home to Buck Shaw Stadium for a match-up with the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. PT. Saturday is Hawaiian Night and 5,000 fans will receive an Earthquakes Hawaiian-themed bag tag, presented by Alaska Airlines. The match will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet California, Galavision, 1220 KDOW (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
