Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, scored double figure runs for the third time in six games this season, drubbing the Jupiter Hammerheads 16-4 at McKechnie Field Tuesday night.
Jupiter got on the board first, scoring on a Dallas Poulk RBI single in the top of the second to make it 1-0. The Marauders responded with eight runs in the third inning, one shy of a team record. They then followed that with seven more in the fourth to take a 15-1 lead.
The two innings contained a combined 23 batters, 11 hits, five walks, four doubles, two homeruns and two sacrifice flies.
The third inning started when Bengie Gonzalez singled to left field. That was followed by a Robbie Grossman walk, Jarek Cunningham double, Evan Chambers sac fly, Chris Snyder walk, Aaron Baker double, Ramon Cabrera intentional walk, David Rubinstein double, Elevys Gonzalez single, Bengie Gonzalez sac fly and a Grossman strikeout.
Cunningham led off the fourth inning with a solo homerun, his second. The hit began an avalanche of 10 consecutive batters to reach base safely, including a Baker three run homer, his first of the year. The streak ended with a Cunningham hit by pitch. The second baseman took a pitch off the leg from Graham Johnson and both dugouts were warned following the play.
The Cunningham hit batter led one inning later to Marauders starting Kyle McPherson being ejected. The righty, who gave up a run on four hits over four plus innings, threw high and tight to Jupiter's Miguel Fermin and was tossed. The incident also resulted in the ejection of Marauders manager Carlos Garcia.
Porfirio Lopez picked up the win in relief throwing three innings. Hammerheads starter Rob Rasmussen took the loss, his first.
Bradenton and Jupiter wrap up a three game series Wednesday night at McKechnie Field. It's a 7pm first pitch that pits Matt McSwain against Chad James for the visitors. For ticket information call 941-747-3031 or visit BradentonMarauders.com.
