Mets' Harvey Impresses in 3-1 Win Over the Miracle

FORT MYERS, FL (April 12th, 2011) - St. Lucie ace Matthew Harvey pitched six scoreless innings giving up three hits, striking out eight, and walking two, leading Mets to a 3-1 win at Hammond Stadium.

Miracle starter Kane Holbrooks delivered a solid start for Fort Myers. The 6-3 right-handed pitcher lasted 5.2 innings allowing five hits, one run, two walks and a strikeout. The Mets touched up Holbrooks for a run in the top of the sixth inning when Rafael Fernandez was robbed of a hit by Aaron Hicks on a diving catch in centerfield with one out, but Jefrey Marte tagged from third to put the Mets ahead 1-0.

St. Lucie added a pair of runs in the eighth inning on a long homerun over the fence in left center off the bat of Mets left fielder Juan Lagares. Following the Lagares homer, the Mets earned a walk and a pair of singles with Rylan Sandoval driving in a run with a hit into right field off of Miracle reliever Bruce Pugh.

The Miracle picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI double of the stick of catcher Chris Herrmann scoring Nate Hanson. Nate Carr nailed down the game for the Mets inducing a ground ball from James Beresford.

Fort Myers made several stellar defensive plays. Jhonathan Goncalves robbed Fernandez of extra bases in the top of the second with an athletic diving catch to his right. Herrmann gunned down Cesar Puello's attempt to steal third in the seventh and Nick Romero dazzled the crowd at Hammond Stadium with a backhand stab on a Puello rocket down the third base line.

Harvey improves to 2-0 and has recorded 17 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. Holbrooks is saddled with the loss and his record falls to 0-1. Jhon Garcia pitched two innings in relief for the Miracle giving up two runs and picking up a strikeout. Bruce Pugh finished the game on the hill for Fort Myers going 1.1 innings and giving up three hits, but no runs.

Fort Myers (4-2) hosts St. Lucie (5-1) in the final game of a three game series on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m. Jeurys Familia for the Mets and Dan Osterbrock for the Miracle are the probable starters.
