Toros Tame Wizards at 2011 NBA D-League Showcase

January 11, 2011 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS, Jan. 11, 2011 - Marcus Cousin personifies the NBA Development League experience.

Following his senior season at Houston in 2009, Cousin performed for general managers and scouts at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and showed signs of a developing post game along with a determination to improve.

After spending the 2009-10 season in Turkey and Israel, Cousin snagged an invite to training camp with the San Antonio Spurs, and wound up being one of the team's final cuts. Intrigued with his potential, the Spurs didn't let him go too far this time, signing him to their own NBA D-league team, the Austin Toros.

Cousin attributes were on display, as Day Two of the 2011 NBA D-League Showcase got underway from the South Padre Island Convention Centre with Toros (8-11) defeating the Dakota Wizards, 119-97. Cousin scored 16 points before the game got out of hand, demonstrating an improved level of polish and aggression that bodes well for his future.

"I need to be a little more consistent," said Cousin, who appeared in five preseason games with the Spurs in October. "I need to have the mindset where I'm going out to get a double-double every night. I also need to continue to focus on defense, because that's what separates a lot of guys."

Eric Dawson had 16 points, while Lance Thomas tallied 12 points and nine rebounds for the Toros, who had eight players score in double figures.

Anthony Goods led the Wizards (6-15) with 20 points. Chris Johnson, who'll participate in tomorrow's Slam Dunk contest, added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Hamady Ndiaye, on assignment from the Washington Wizards, had seven points and four blocks for Dakota.

Austin plays again Thursday against Bakersfield. Dakota takes the court again tomorrow against Tulsa.
