Trenton, NJ - The ECHL's Trenton Devils today announced the signings of three players: defenseman Dave Leaderer and forwards Ryan Ginand and Tony Zancanaro. The announcement was made by Albany/Trenton Devils General Manager Chris Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Leaderer, 24, enters his third season in the ECHL, having appeared in all 144 Devils' games since his arrival in Trenton in the fall of 2008. In two seasons, the 5-11, 190 lb. defenseman has amassed 61 points (21g, 40a) with a combined rating of plus-11. From 2004-2008, Leaderer played NCAA hockey with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Minutemen (HE), setting the school record for career games played (149) and serving as assistant captain during his senior season. Prior to his collegiate career, Leaderer played two seasons with the Boston Junior Bruins (EJHL) winning his team's Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2003. The Rochester, NY native was born July 31, 1986.
Ginand, 24, enters his second season with the Devils, first signing with Trenton in November 2009 after a 10-game stint with Herning of the Danish Elite League. In 40 games with the Devils, the 5-9, 175-lb. forward tallied 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points with 18 penalty minutes. From 2005 to 2009 at Northeastern University (HE), he recorded 46 goals and 36 assists in 132 games. In his senior season, the Milford, MA native posted a career-high 32 points (20g, 12a) in 39 games. Prior to attending Northeastern, the left-handed shooter spent three seasons with the Boston Junior Bruins (EJHL) and won two regular season titles and one EJHL Tournament championship. In 2004-05, Ginand led the Junior Bruins in scoring with 58 points (36g, 22a). He was born April 1, 1986.
Zancanaro, 28, enters his fifth season in Trenton as the longest tenured player on the Devils' roster. In the 2009-10 season, Zancanaro set career highs in all major offensive categories, notching 18 goals, 30 assists and 48 points, while tying for the team lead with five game-winning goals, including an overtime tally on March 26 at Elmira. In January of 2010, Zancanaro set personal records for goals in a month with seven, and for points in a month with 13. Before his arrival in Trenton in 2006, the 5-5, 165-lb. forward played collegiately for four seasons from 2003-2007 with Providence College (HE), captaining the Friars during both his junior and senior seasons. Prior to that, Zancanaro spent three seasons with Springfield (Mo.) of the NAHL, becoming the first Spirits player in franchise history to have his jersey number retired. The Trenton, MI native was born June 4, 1982.
The Trenton Devils regular season begins at Sun National Bank Center October 16 and 17 with home games against Reading at 7 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
