Royals Sign Defenseman Matt Generous

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Matt Generous ["JEN er us"]. Last season, Generous (6'3/217) (25), who hails from Cheshire, Connecticut, scored two goals and assisted on eleven others (thirteen points) and picked up seventy-four penalty minutes in sixty-one games with the Portland Pirates of the AHL.

A seventh round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Generous had a stellar four year collegiate career at St. Lawrence University, where he was a four-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. Generous, who will be entering his second full season of pro hockey, signed a one-year entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres after completing his college career in 2008-09, when he was named the ECAC's Defensive Defenseman of the Year. In 139 total college games with the Saints, Generous registered fifty-six points (18g-38a) and 133 penalty minutes.

Generous is the seventeenth player (eight forwards and nine defensemen) announced as signed to an ECHL contract by the Royals for the 2010-11 season. The Royals have also signed three players (a forward, a defenseman and goaltender) to Tryout Agreements.

The Royals host the team's tenth anniversary home opener on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm), when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center.
