Lee, Rox Get Called To The Hall

Brockton, Mass. - The Brockton Rox announced on Thursday that the hat worn by former major leaguer Bill Lee during his 2010 Can-Am League start for the Rox has been requested by the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The donation of the hat will allow for the museum to document Lee's appearance as the oldest person to pitch in a minor league game, as well as to win a game. The likely destination for the artifact is the Hall of Fame's Records Room, which will open in 2011. Until then, the donation of the artifact for the museum's collections will allow for the Hall to tell the story of this outing, and to document the game for future generations.

The 63-year-old Lee pitched five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on five hits with a strikeout as the Rox defeated the Worcester Tornadoes, 7-3, on Sunday, September 5. The third-winningest lefthanded pitcher in Boston Red Sox history, Lee pitched 14 seasons for the Red Sox and Montreal Expos in the major leagues from 1969 to 1982.
