LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws and their parent club, the Philadelphia Phillies, are pleased to announce an extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC).

With the two-year extension, the BlueClaws will remain the South Atlantic League affiliate of the Phillies through at least the 2012 season.

"The BlueClaws, their staff, the Township of Lakewood and their great fans have provided the Phillies and our young players a tremendous environment over the last 10 seasons," said Benny Looper, Phillies Assistant General Manager, Player Personnel. "We are excited to extend what has been an exceptional relationship."

The BlueClaws have been Phillies affiliates since their 2001 inception.

Thirty-five former BlueClaws have reached the Major Leagues, many with the Phillies, including Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Carlos Ruiz, all key members of the Phillies 2008 World Series Championship club and 2009 National League Championship club.

"We're very happy to renew our player development contract with the Phillies," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "Our fans have been able to see some great players and great baseball and everyone is looking forward to continuing the relationship."

The formal ceremony occurred before Friday's playoff game with BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown and Phillies Director of Minor Leagues Steve Noworyta.

The BlueClaws have had winning seasons each of the last five years, winning the 2006 and 2009 South Atlantic League Championships. After winning both halves of the SAL season in 2010, the BlueClaws are looking for their third, and second consecutive, championship.

Tickets to all remaining BlueClaws playoff games are on sale at 732-901-7000 or online at BlueClaws.com.
