SHREVEPORT, La. - As Yogi Berra once said, it's déjà vu all over again.

For the second consecutive night, the Sioux Falls Pheasants lost a pitcher's duel to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. For the second straight night, the Captains won by a score of 3-1.

With the defeat on Wednesday night, the Pheasants trail 2-0 to the Captains in the best-of-five American Association championship series. The Pheasants face elimination and must win the final three games to claim their second league title in three years.

Sioux Falls could not recover from the Captains' two-run first inning. Pheasants starter Chris Salberg (0-1) yielded a leadoff walk followed by three consecutive singles. The Captains grabbed a 2-0 lead with Christopher Garcia and Palmer Karr Jr. each collecting an RBI.

Salberg gave up just three hits after the first inning and did not allow another earned run. He allowed six hits total in six innings while walking three and striking out eight. Shreveport-Bossier added a run in the fourth inning on a fielding error from Tim Hutting.

Ryan DiPietro (1-1) stifled the Pheasants' bats over seven shutout innings to earn the victory. Sioux Falls managed just three hits against the lefty. DiPietro walked two and struck out four.

The Pheasants scored their only run on a double-play groundout by Reggie Abercrombie in the eighth inning. Hector Carrasco earned his second postseason save by tossing the final two innings.

The Pheasants' offense - the league's most powerful and productive in the regular season - has combined for just two runs and nine hits in the first two games against Shreveport-Bossier. Sioux Falls is hitting just .211 in the postseason. The pitching staff, however, has a stingy 2.25 ERA in the playoffs.

Game 3 along with possible Games 4 and 5 will take place in Sioux Falls, beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, September 10. Tickets for Game 3 are available by calling (605) 333-0179 or by visiting Sioux Falls Stadium, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All games will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
