New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - When the curtain fell this Labor Day afternoon on the 2010 Eastern League Season in New Britain, appreciative Rock Cats players were tossing batting gloves, wrist bands, and assorted other baseball items into the stands for their famously supportive fans. And well they should have - for in an injury-filled campaign that ended with a record number of losses for the franchise - the Rock Cats Faithful never lost their ardor, turning out in record numbers that set a new franchise record.
In a season filled with on-field challenges, when 6,208 fans passed through the New Britain Stadium turnstiles on this final day of the 2010 campaign, the New Britain franchise established a new Single Season Total Attendance mark of 368,523. This record number of fans was accomplished over just 67 home dates, meaning that the Rock Cats enjoyed a Per Game Average Attendance of 5,500.
With the seating capacity at New Britain Stadium being 6,146, today's gathering was a Sellout - the 21st of the 2010 Season for the Rock Cats. The franchise record for Sellouts was established just last year when 22 Sellout crowds filled the Stadium.
Bill Dowling, President & CEO of the Rock Cats, expressed his appreciation to the club's fans for their enduring support: "We are so grateful, in a season that wasn't quite what our fans have come to expect from either the Minnesota Twins or ourselves, that our patrons from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts continued to turn out in big numbers. They are the best and we deeply appreciate their loyal support".
The previous Single Season Attendance mark for the New Britain franchise was set last year when 366,682 fans came out to see a 2009 Rock Cats team that went to the Eastern League Playoffs. The franchise record for Per Game Average Attendance was also established last season when 5,556 fans turned out to see Rock Cats Baseball.
Today's enthusiastic crowd watched the `Cats drop their season finale, 5-2, to Trenton, the Eastern League affiliate of the 2009 World Champion New York Yankees. Despite the outcome - on a beautiful Labor Day afternoon - a good time was had by all!
