Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The host family homes have begun to fill up and the smell of Phantom hockey has returned to the Youngstown area. Phantom players have reported to camp for the 2010-11 season.
Head Coach Curtis Carr and the other members of the Phantom brain trust are very excited that the players are back in town.
"We are eager to get going," said Carr. "Last year was a big learning curve for our program. This year the all the pieces are in place. We have 11 returning players to this year's roster."
For fourth year goaltender, Jordan Tibbett, it has been a long awaited return to the Youngstown area.
"The last month of the off-season is a very antsy time," said Tibbett. "I was ready to get back with the guys and hit the ice; this was all I was looking forward to."
With any new season comes the movement of players into the area. For some that move can be a lot further. For first year goalie, Matthew O'Connor, the move required him to leave Toronto and head for Youngstown.
"The transition can be tough," O'Connor said. "When you are around the guys and have a good host family, life is made that much easier. The toughest part is actually getting used to schedule, but with the right support system in place the transition can be easy."
According to Tibbett, this year's Phantoms squad takes on the very same characteristics of the community that they represent.
"We have a very hard working team," said Tibbett. "We are very dedicated and we just want to win.
The Phantoms have a pre-season game on September 11th at 7:30 p.m. against the Chicago Steel. The game will take place at the Ice Zone in Boardman and it will be open to the public.
