GREENVILLE, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, announced today their new partnership with the Greater Greenville Hockey Association.
"Creating a partnership with the youth hockey organization in Greenville was a top priority of ours in our first season here," said Road Warriors president and general manager Neil Smith. "By working together closely this season, and in the seasons to come, we can really grow the game of hockey in Greenville."
The Greater Greenville Hockey Association is the governing body for amateur hockey in the Greenville area, and as part of the new partnership will be naming its teams the Junior Road Warriors. Throughout their inaugural season the Road Warriors players and coaches will be attending Junior Road Warriors practices to offer professional-style instruction to the young players. Also, the two organizations will work together on initiatives to help raise funds for the Junior Road Warriors in order to make playing hockey more affordable for the youth of Greenville.
"The Greater Greenville Hockey Association is pleased to have the opportunity to be affiliated with the ECHL Greenville Road Warriors. The return of professional ice hockey to the Upstate has been long awaited, and much anticipated," said G.G.H.A. president Richard Lindsay. "The Greenville Road Warriors organization and the Greater Greenville Hockey Association are aligned to support the growth of youth ice hockey in Greenville and throughout the surrounding Upstate region. The Greater Greenville Hockey Association looks forward to working with the Greenville Road Warriors management, coaches and players on numerous programs and initiatives."
The Road Warriors will be participating in one of the Junior Road Warriors' biggest fundraising efforts on Monday, October 18. Beginning at 1:00 that afternoon, the Junior Road Warriors will host their 11th annual golf tournament at Willow Creek Golf Club in Greer. Foursomes participating in the tournament will be joined by members of the Road Warriors, and an auction will be held for the chance to play with team owner Neil Smith or head coach Dean Stork. Road Warriors fans can also support the Junior Road Warriors through their ticket fundraiser program. The Junior Road Warriors will be selling flex ticket vouchers to Road Warriors home games this season. By purchasing tickets from the Junior Road Warriors fans will help to offset the costs associated with playing hockey and make it more affordable for the players in all of the Junior Road Warriors programs to participate.
