-SPIKES HEAD TO BATAVIA FOR MUCKDOGS MATCHUP: The State College Spikes continue their second straight extended run against the same opponent as the scene shifts to Dwyer Stadium for the first game of a three-game series, and the third game of five straight against the Batavia Muckdogs. Two days ago, the Spikes finished up a six-game swing against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. State College is 4-3 against Batavia this year.
-LAST GAME: The Spikes, behind Matt Curry's sixth home run of the season and a furious comeback attempt, came close but ultimately fell to the Batavia Muckdogs, 10-6, on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Curry's blast over the right field wall led off the second inning and brought State College within a 3-1 margin after Batavia took an early lead. Audry Perez also homered for the Muckdogs.
-DODSON GOES TO THE MOUND FOR SPIKES: Left-hander Zack Dodson gets the ball for his 14th appearance, and 11th start on the 2010 season. Dodson allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three last time out at Mahoning Valley. The southpaw from Natalia, TX is making his first appearance against Batavia this year. Dodson has allowed left-handed hitters just a .213 average.
-MUCKDOGS SEND OUT RUSSELL: Batavia will go with right-hander Zach Russell on the mound tonight. Russell has a 4.22 ERA at Dwyer Stadium as opposed to a 1.93 ERA away from home. In two starts against the Spikes earlier this year, Russell allowed four runs over eight innings. The Camden, AR native has allowed opponents just a .168 average in 2010.
-CURRY STILL SPICING UP OFFENSE: Matt Curry is third in the New York-Penn League with a .411 on-base percentage, and his six home runs are tied for the team lead. Curry has also knocked in five runs over his seven games.
