Carlos Silva to Rehab with Chiefs Friday

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that injured Cubs hurler Carlos Silva will rehab with the Chiefs on Friday in a 6:30 p.m. start against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Tickets for the rehab games are currently on sale online at www.peoriachiefs.com, by calling 1-866-MYTICKET and at the O'Brien Field Box Office which opens Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until Noon on Thursday, however, tickets are still available for the general public immediately.

Silva, 31, has been on the disabled list with an abnormal heart rate since leaving his August 1 start in Colorado after facing just four batters. Silva is 10-5 in 20 starts this season with a 3.92 ERA for the Cubs. He has amassed 76 strikeouts and walked just 23 batters over 108 innings. Silva began the 2010 season 8-0 before losing for the first time on June 12 against the Chicago White Sox. He didn't lose to a National League team until a setback to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 11 in California

Silva was signed out of Venezuela by the Philadelphia Phillies on March 22, 1996 and spent six seasons in the Phillies Minor League system before making his MLB debut on April 1, 2002. Silva was 5-0 in 68 relief outings with a 3.21 ERA in 2002 and 3-1 with a 4.43 in 62 outings in 2003. Silva was traded to Minnesota on December 3, 2003 along with Nick Punto and Bobby Korecky in exchange for Eric Milton. Silva pitched for the Twins from 2004-2007 as a starter going 47-45 and throwing at least 180 innings each season. Silva pitched in the 2004 ALDS for the Twins and lost his only start to the New York Yankees. A free agent after the 2007 season, Silva signed with the Seattle Mariners and went 4-15 with a 6.46 ERA in 28 starts in 2008. Injuries limited Silva to eight MLB outings and three rehab starts in 2009. Silva was 1-3 with an 8.00 ERA for Seattle while making rehab starts in Triple-A Tacoma and Short Season-A Everett. Silva was traded to the Cubs on December 18, 2009 in exchange for Milton Bradley.

Silva rehabbed in the Midwest League with Beloit on April 17, 2005 and allowed one run on five hits over five innings of work with three strikeouts. He took a no-decision as Lansing came from behind to beat Beloit 3-2.

Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until Noon on Thursday. However, tickets are still available for the general public immediately by calling 1-866-MYTICKET, online at www.peoriachiefs.com or at the O'Brien Field Box Office. The Box Office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to the Major League rehab, the Never-A-Wasted ticket policy is suspended for both games. Friday night is Cubs Mania night and fans who are wearing Cubs gear to the game can get $5.00 Club Box Tickets at the O'Brien Field Box office only. Friday also features a Pitch-In For Charity Tennis Ball Toss after the game with the proceeds going to Central Illinois Friends of People with AIDS with a chance to win a 60" LG HDTV provided by Sherman's.

Silva is the third Cubs player to rehab for the Chiefs in 2010 following Ted Lilly's win over Burlington on April 19 and Aramis Ramirez's two-game stint in June at O'Brien Field. The rehab list since the affiliation change in 2005 includes: Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry Wood (2005, 2006 & 2007), Mark Prior, Reed Johnson, Angel Guzman, Juan Mateo, Wade Miller, Scott Williamson, Henry Blanco, Scott Eyre and Jon Lieber.
