Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield Condors, host of the 2010-11 ECHL All-Star Classic, today made two trades, acquiring the rights to LW Adam Berti from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for future considerations, and dealing the rights to F Mark Voakes to the Greenville Road Warriors for future considerations. The announcements were made by Head Coach Marty Raymond.
Berti, 24, spent the entire season in Gwinnett in 2009-10, the only season in which he hasn't spent time in the American or National Hockey Leagues. His 57 points led the club, as did his 41 assists, while he was fifth with 16 goals. The 6-3, 210-pound left winger was a third round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004, and earned a two-game call up to the Hawks in 2007-08.
The Oshawa, Ontario, native spent the entire 2006-07 season, and most of the 2007-08 campaign as well, with Chicago's AHL affiliate in Norfolk (Va.). Berti played 10 games in the AHL in 2008-09, and split the rest of his time between the Fresno Falcons and Gwinnett. In 138 career ECHL games, Berti has 31g-74a-105pts.
What Marty says:
"We're looking for a big-time player to play on our first line and Adam is someone who we've looked at before. His rights became available and we jumped at the chance to pick him up. Hopefully he will be wearing a Condors sweater this season."
Voakes split his rookie season in 2009-10 between the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Condors, totaling 11g-10a-21pts in 33 games. Bakersfield acquired him from the Cyclones in a March 9 trade. He notched 3g-3a-6pts in nine games after the trade, and tied a Condors rookie record with eight points in the playoffs (3g-5a).
