South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that infielder Matt Davidson has been promoted to high-A Visalia of the California League. Additionally, RHP Derek Eitel from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana and outfielder Chris Jarrett from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana have been added to the active roster.

Davidson was the team leader in virtually every offensive category at the time of his promotion. A supplemental first-round pick in 2009, Davidson was batting .289 with 16 home runs and 79 RBIs. He ranked second in the league with the 79 RBIs, while placing second with 54 extra base hits, fourth with 35 doubles, and fifth with 209 total bases.

Davidson had split time at third base and designated hitter with Bobby Borchering. Batting cleanup for most of the season, his bat will be missed over the final 20 games as the Silver Hawks try to track down a playoff spot.

Eitel joins the Silver Hawks from Missoula, where he was 2-2 with a 5.11 ERA in 11 games (eight starts). The right hander had 32 strikeouts and 22 walks in 49.1 innings. Originally from Marshall, Illinois, and drafted in the 17th round this June, Eitel became the first Rose-Hulman student-athlete in school history selected in a professional sports draft.

This season at Rose Hulman, Eitel went 6-2 with a 3.74 earned run average in 77 innings of work with 92 strikeouts. He was a first-team all-conference selection in baseball and also was named the Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Year in football after setting school records for passing yards and touchdowns as the quarterback of the team.

Jarrett also played in the Heartland Conference, where he was the conference MVP and joined Eitel on the all-conference team in baseball. Jarrett hit .443 in conference play and .441 overall with 16 home runs, 23 stolen bases, and 63 RBIs. He was batting .228 with two homers and 20 RBIs for Missoula after being selected in the 42nd round by the Diamondbacks this June.

The South Bend roster currently stands at 25 active players plus one on the disabled list. The Midwest League allows for 25 active players.

The Silver Hawks continue a six game road trip tonight with game one against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM Eastern Time at Cooley Law School Stadium.
