
Hillcats Hit Kinston with a 6-4 Loss

The Lynchburg Hillcats handed Kinston a 6-4 defeat Sunday night in Virginia. With the win Lynchburg sweeps the K-Tribe in the three game series.
The Hillcats jumped all over T.J. House in the bottom of the first inning. With one-on and one-out, Chris Richburg gave Lynchburg a 1-0 lead with an RBI double. Kyle Day then walked and Shane Carlson drove Richburg in with another RBI double. Jose Gualdron finished the scoring with an RBI double, giving Lynchburg a 4-0 first inning lead.
Kinston would come right back in the top of the second inning off of Hillcat starter Pedro Villarreal. Chun Chen and Kyle Bellows led off with singles. Abner Abreu and Doug Pickens followed with RBI singles to cut the Hillcat lead in half. A double play grounder off the bat of Donnie Webb scored Abreu as Kinston cut the Lynchburg lead to one.
The Hillcats would take a 5-3 lead when Efrain Contreras and Jordan Wideman hit back-to-back singles to lead off the fourth inning, followed by a Brodie Greene sacrifice fly. The K-Tribe would again make it a one-run game when Abreu delivered a two-out RBI triple in the top of the sixth. The three bagger drove in Bellows and made the score 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Hillcats got a big insurance run when Cody Puckett led off with a home run. It was Puckett's 13th of the season and first hit of Kinston reliever Tyler Sturdevant.
House (5-9) took the loss giving up five earned runs on nine hits in five innings of work. House walked one and struck out five. Sturdevant gave up three hits in three innings of work for Kinston. Abreu went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Kinston. The K-Tribe racked up ten hits on the night in the loss.
The Indians now begin a five game in four day homestand on Monday at Historic Grainger Stadium. It's a Buck Night Monday to kick things off against the Potomac Nationals Game time 7:00 pm with Joe Gardner (9-5, 2.91) on the mound for the K-Tribe.
