
IronBirds Drop Second Straight to Cyclones

Aberdeen, MD - With the score tied at two in the ninth inning, the Brooklyn Cyclones struck for two runs on four hits to take the lead and eventually defeat the Aberdeen IronBirds Thursday night 4-2.
Aberdeen jumped on the scoreboard in the first. Trent Mummey led off the inning with a bunt single. He advanced to second on a ground out before scoring on a Kipp Schutz RBI-single making it 1-0.
The Cyclones tied it up in the third. Luis Nieves hit a one-out triple. Rylan Sandoval drove him in with an RBI-single.
The IronBirds re-took the lead in the fourth. Adam Gaylord led off the frame with a double off the center field wall. He advanced to third on a sac bunt from Joel Polanco. Jeremy Nowak knocked him in on a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 2-1.
IronBirds' starter Bruno Sanchez left the game after the sixth. He allowed just one run on four hits in six strong innings of work. Sanchez walked one and struck out three.
Brooklyn tied the game up in the top of the seventh. With Joe Bonfe on second and two outs, James Schroeder skied a ball to the right field warning track. IronBirds' right fielder Nowak misjudged the ball. It hit off his glove and dropped in. Bonfe scored on the error, tying the game at two.
The Cyclones took the lead for good in the ninth. With two on and one down, pinch hitter Jeff Flagg hit an RBI-single to center. A batter later, with runners on the corners and two down, Luis Nieves laid down a squeeze bunt. A run scored as Nieves reached on the bunt hit, making it 4-2.
Ryan Fraser (1-1) got the win for Brooklyn. He pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his first win of 2010. T.R. Keating (2-3) took the loss. Keating allowed the two runs in the ninth inning on four hits.
The IronBirds and the Cyclones will meet again tomorrow, in the finale of this three-game series. It will be Armed Services Night presented by USO banking, only at Bank of America. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. LHP Justin Anderson (3-1, 3.44) will be on the mound for Aberdeen. RHP Yohan Almonte (3-3, 2.68) will get the start for Brooklyn.
