JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Saul Gonzalez pitched five shutout innings and the Jammers scored early in a 3-0 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The win gave Jamestown a split of the day's games after the Scrappers won the suspended game, 4-2.
Gonzalez, making his first start since July 10th, allowed just two hits and one walk in the outing. He struck out four batters to improve to 3-1.
The Jammers scored one run in the bottom of the first inning on Ryan Fisher's triple and two in the bottom of the second on James Wooster's double. That was all Gonzalez, Michael Brady and Jordan Conley needed.
Jamestown improved to 22-16 with the victory and is now 1.0 game back of the Williamsport Crosscutters in the Pinckney Division. The Jammers are tied with the Batavia Muckdogs for the Wild Card.
Mahoning Valley won the suspended game, 4-2. The Scrappers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-0 lead before the Jammers scored two in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit in half.
The Jammers sent the potential winning run to the plate twice in the inning, but Wilfredo Gimenez and Danny Black were retired to end the game.
The series concludes Friday, July 30th, at 7:05 pm. The game can be heard live on JamestownJammers.com.
