Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Tri-City Dust Devils got their second half of the 2010 season off to a great start Wednesday night, defeating the visiting Everett AquaSox by a score of 7-0. The AquaSox (0-1 second half, 27-12 overall) did not show the same form as they did the first half of the season in which they earned the first half West division title and a playoff spot. The Dust Devils' (1-0, 18-21) pitching staff held them scoreless on six hits on their way to an all-around outstanding performance.
Tri-City starter Chad Bettis continued his good form in his rookie campaign, working 4 2/3 shutout innings in which he allowed three hits while striking out five. Despite the impressive start Bettis earned a no-decision and lowered his earned run average to a microscopic 1.47, lowest in the Northwest League of starters with at least six starts.
Dust Devils reliever Eric Federico (2-2) earned his second win of the season, working 2 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out one and allowed just two hits.
Taking the loss for the AquaSox was reliever Eric Thomas (1-1). Thomas went 2 2/3 innings and allowed all seven runs. Thomas did not receive much defensive help though, as Everett committed four errors on the night, leading to five unearned Dust Devil runs. Everett starter Tom Wilhelmsen did very well, going five innings, striking out six and allowing just one hit en route to a no-decision.
Tri-City second baseman Russell Wilson was the catalyst at the plate, driving in the decisive run for the Dust Devils. Wilson was 2 for 4 on the night with two runs batted in as well as getting his team-high fourth triple of the year.
The Dust Devils take on the AquaSox for game two of five Thursday night. Thursday night is also Hat Giveaway night with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving a free hat!
