York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution continued to score runs at an amazing pace, and bludgeoned the Camden Riversharks 15-4 on Tuesday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium for their sixth consecutive win. Erold Andrus drove in five, Jose Herrera and John Pachot each had four hits, and Corey Thurman earned his team-best eighth win on the year. The Revs will look to run the win streak to seven on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., in the next-to-last game of the homestand.
The Revs jumped out to a big lead with four first inning runs. Andrus singled and Ramon Castro doubled with one out, before Herrera tapped a swinging bunt in front of the plate. Catcher Matt Ceriani's throw sailed over first baseman Raul Padron and down the right field line, allowing two runs to score, and Herrera to advance all the way to third. James Shanks then drove in Herrera on a single up the middle, and Pachot singled to left later in the inning, driving in Shanks to make it 4-0.
Camden got on the board in the second inning, when Richie Robnett tripled off the wall in left-center, and scored on a passed ball.
The Revs responded with three more in their half of the second, sprinting out to a 7-1 lead, and chasing Camden starter Josh Brey in the process. Castro stroked his second double on a shot to left-center, driving in Andrus who had led off with a walk. Ian Bladergroen later rapped an RBI single to right-center, and Pachot pushed home another run with a bloop single to left-center, as the rout was on.
Brey (4-8) lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits in his shortest start of the year.
Garrett Guzman blasted a solo homer to right field in the third, pulling the Sharks within 7-2, but the Revs ran away with three runs in the fourth, and five more in the fifth.
Reliever Kieran Mattison recorded the first two outs in the fourth inning, but found himself in a bases loaded jam after Pachot singled, Chuck Jeroloman walked, and Scott Grimes was hit by a pitch. Andrus cleaned off the bags with a three-run double on a missile that smacked off the right field fence, increasing the lead to 10-2.
The Revs loaded the bases again with one out in the fifth, and Pachot greeted former Revs pitcher John Muller with an RBI single to left. Guzman threw wildly toward third base on the play, allowing Bladergroen to score a second run on the error. Jeroloman then singled up the middle, plating yet another run, and Andrus popped a two-run double to left-center, increasing the bulge to 15-2.
Thurman retired eight-in-a-row until allowing a solo homer down the left field line to Kyle Haines (4-for-4) with one out in the seventh. It was just the sixth career homerun for Haines in seven pro seasons.
Thurman (8-6) allowed just three runs in seven innings, earning his second straight win, and improving to 7-1 for his career against Camden, which includes a personal seven-game winning streak against the Sharks.
Shea Harris dropped a bloop single into right-center, driving home a run in the eighth for Camden's final run.
Notes: York (10-8) remains half a game behind Lancaster (10-7) for first place in the Freedom Division's second half standings. The six-game winning streak is the Revs' longest since August, 2008. The Revs scored double-digit runs for the seventh time in 14 games, and second time in as many games after scoring 13 runs the night before. York has now scored a league-best 513 runs on the season. The Revs also pounded out 19 hits. Herrera and Pachot each collected their first four-hit games of the year. Andrus' five RBI were a season-high. The Revs have scored at least three runs in an inning seven times in the first two games of the series, including four times on Tuesday night. Grimes' hit-by-pitch was his 15th of the season, setting a Revolution single-season record; it surpassed the previous mark of 14, held by Jason Aspito (2008). Lefty Damian Moss (0-0) makes his second start for the Revs on Wednesday night, against Camden's Ben Davis (2-5). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. for Wing Wednesday. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
