THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... begin a six-game road trip with the first of three straight contests against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes this evening at The Epicenter. The Giants dropped two out of three games to the visiting High Desert Mavericks in their most recent series. High Desert scored five runs in the first two innings en route to an 8-3 victory over the Giants in the series rubber game on Sunday. Rich Poythress, Kyle Seager and Johermyn Chavez each blasted home runs while Kenn Kasparek tossed eight innings with three runs allowed, no walks and two strikeouts to earn the win. Francisco Peguero hit his seventh home run of the year as part of a 3-for-4 performance at the plate to lead San Jose offensively. Oliver Odle suffered the loss after surrendering a season-high six runs (all earned) on nine hits over five innings of work.

San Jose Looks To Continue Road Success... The Giants have won seven out of their last nine road games and boast a 32-18 record away from Municipal Stadium this season. San Jose is also 10-2 on the road against South Division opponents this year. Beginning tonight, the Giants will play 12 out of their next 15 games on the road.
Peguero Enjoys Spectacular Homestand... Outfielder Francisco Peguero collected 16 hits in 28 at-bats (.571), including two doubles, three triples, three home runs and seven RBI's during the six-game homestand that concluded on Sunday. The outburst has raised his season batting average to .318. Peguero set the San Jose Giants single-season triples record with his 13th of the year in last Thursday's game against Stockton. Peguero currently leads the California League in triples (14) and is also third with 36 stolen bases. He's batting .426 in 22 games this month.
Rare Series Versus The Quakes ... This series marks San Jose's only regular season visit to Rancho Cucamonga. In their only previous meeting, the Giants won two out of three games against the Quakes from May 30-June 1 at Municipal Stadium.
Fairley Extends Hitting Streak To Nine Games... Outfielder Wendell Fairley brings a nine-game hitting streak into this evening's contest. During the hit streak, Fairley is batting at a .314 clip (11-for-35) with five RBI's.
Versus The South... The Giants are in the midst of a stretch (July 10-August 1) when they'll play 18 out of 21 games against teams from the South Division. San Jose is 14-14 against Southern Division opponents this season.
Culberson Leads Offensive Attack... Second baseman Charlie Culberson is batting .408 (20-for-49) over his last 12 games. The former supplemental first round draft pick is leading the Giants in batting average (.327), home runs (14), RBI's (61), hits (122) and slugging percentage (.531). He's tied for seventh in the league in batting average, tied for fourth in hits and tied for sixth in doubles (26).
Second Half Improvement... Several Giants hitters have seen significant improvement in their batting averages during the second half: Johnny Monell (.220 first half, .330 second half), Wendell Fairley (.272 first half, .340 second half), Charlie Culberson (.314 first half, .356 second half) and Francisco Peguero (.276 first half, .395 second half).
Stolen Base Threats... The Giants have stolen 170 bases this season to lead the California League - 15 ahead of the next closest team (Rancho Cucamonga). Six players have reached double figures in stolen bases this season: Francisco Peguero (36), Ehire Adrianza (24), Charlie Culberson (20), Juan Perez (14), James Simmons (14) and Johnny Monell (10).
San Jose Wins League Record Sixth Consecutive First Half Title... The San Jose Giants won their California League record sixth consecutive first half North Division title this season. The Giants finished the first half with a 45-25 mark - eight games ahead of both the Modesto Nuts (37-33) and Visalia Rawhide (37-33). By virtue of winning the first half, San Jose secures a berth in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The Giants have won three league championships (2005, 2007, 2009) in the last five seasons and will be attempting to win back-to-back titles for the first time in franchise history this September. San Jose will open the playoffs on Saturday, September 11 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series. The previous league record for consecutive first half division titles was three (Visalia).
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes... The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, enter tonight's action with an overall record of 56-45. The Quakes are 17-14 in the second half - tied with the High Desert Mavericks for the top spot in the South Division. Rancho Cucamonga is third in the league in batting average (.280), tied for second in runs scored (5.3), second in stolen bases (155) and fourth in ERA (4.32). First baseman Gabe Jacobo is third in the league in RBI's (79) to go with a .308 batting average and 16 home runs. Manaurys Correa is slated to make the start on the mound tonight for the Quakes. Correa is 1-8 with a 6.75 ERA in 10 starts this season.
