Cespedes Named Pitcher-Of-The-Week

(LANCASTER, CA) - Lancaster starting pitcher Leandro Cespedes has been named California League Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of July 19 through July 25. Cespedes is the second JetHawks player to be honored as Pitcher-of-the-Week or Player-of-the-Week by the California League this season. JetHawks centerfielder Jay Austin earned Player-of-the-Week honors for the week of May 3 through May 9.
Cespedes tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and two walks along with eight strikeouts at Visalia on July 21. He earned the win in Lancaster's 7-0 triumph over the Rawhide. After beginning the season in the JetHawks bullpen, Cespedes was moved into the starting rotation at the beginning of July. In four starts since joining the rotation, Cespedes is 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA.
He made a spot start for the Round Rock Express, Houston's Triple-A affiliate, on Monday. The 23-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic was a member of Lancaster's starting rotation throughout the 2009 season and he led the club in wins (9) and strikeouts (116).
